For 25 years, Rosa had been known for one thing almost everyone noticed the moment they met her: her extraordinarily long \u00a0hair<\/span>.<\/p>\n

It had grown to nearly five feet in length, reaching far beyond her waist and becoming a defining part of her appearance.<\/p>\n

Over the years, her husband had occasionally encouraged her to try a shorter \u00a0hairstyle<\/span>.<\/p>\n

But Rosa loved her long hair.<\/p>\n

She had spent years caring for it, and she was proud of the way it looked.<\/p>\n

Then, after a quarter of a century, Rosa decided it was finally time for a change.<\/p>\n

She didn\u2019t make the decision alone.<\/p>\n

One day, she went to a hair salon with several of her friends and sat down in the chair.<\/p>\n

Instead of simply trimming a few inches, Rosa decided to have most of her remarkable length removed.<\/p>\n

Her new hair would fall around her shoulders.<\/p>\n

For the first time in 25 years, she would have a completely different look.<\/p>\n

The salon owner, Eda Motchka, had seen Rosa many times before and was used to seeing her with the same incredibly long hairstyle.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe love to see different things done on customers\u2014different styles,\u201d Motchka explained in an interview with WXYZ-TV Detroit. \u201cAnd we meet very often, and I always see her the same way.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Rosa wasn\u2019t cutting her hair simply because she wanted a fresh appearance.<\/p>\n

She had something much more meaningful in mind.<\/p>\n

Instead of throwing away the hair she had spent decades growing, Rosa decided to donate several feet of it to Locks of Love<\/strong>, a nonprofit organization known for providing hairpieces to children experiencing \u00a0hair loss<\/span> from medical conditions.<\/p>\n

For Rosa, the haircut wasn\u2019t really about losing something she had treasured for so long.<\/p>\n

It was about turning something personal into a gift for someone else.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it would make somebody\u2019s day who\u2019s suffering from a bad disease,\u201d Rosa said. \u201cIt will make their day a little brighter.\u201d<\/p>\n

After years of maintaining her long hair, Rosa walked out of the salon looking completely different.<\/p>\n

But perhaps the most meaningful change wasn\u2019t the hairstyle she gained.<\/p>\n

It was knowing that something she had carefully cared for over many years could help bring comfort and confidence to a child going through a difficult time.<\/p>\n

A haircut might seem like a small thing.<\/p>\n

But sometimes, something that feels ordinary to one person can mean a great deal to someone else.<\/p>\n

For Rosa, 25 years of hair became more than a personal style.<\/p>\n
